Happy New Year, Everyone!

Where were you at midnight? I was in a heated pool with a cool glass of champagne watching the bats fly over the trees. It was nice.

I hope this will be a good year. For some of my friends it has started out rough. Jobs have been lost, relationships have ended, and bad news has dropped out of the sky. I wish them all well, I'm powerless to do much else.

On a good note, my sister got engaged over the holiday. She and her man have been living together for years and they share a baby, so I guess it's time they tied the knot. She is very happy and that makes me happy. My nephew thought that once you got engaged you got married right that minute and started crying because he didn't have a tux. So cute.

So I got suckered into watching that World Dance show last night, the one with all the countries competing against each other. I gotta say, not impressed. It wasn't just the fact that the dancers seemed slow and over choreographed, or that fact I can't stand to look at the host (that chin is just unnatural), but the fact that the camera men sucked balls. Here's a tip: When a dancer is doing a bunch of stuff with her legs, don't zoom in on her face. Also, you don't need to cut away to so many different angles. It's a dance, let the camera follow the dancers and leave the MTV style of editing to, well, MTV.

The Tango was the only dance that I liked. That was hot. The others seemed as if they were trying too hard or too little. The Australian dancers that tossed each other around could have been cool, but the "I'll just walk on stage to get into position" really ruined the impression, ya know? They looked like they were rehearsing, not dancing. Tap doesn't do anything for me, so the Irish (with that horrible gay mess in front, no less) didn't impress. I'm not saying it's easy to prance around like a fairy, it's just not enjoyable.

The greatest disappointment was the solo dancer for the USA. A popper, I'd seen him on "So You Think You Can Dance" and he blew me away. He can do such amazing things! He left my mouth hanging open with his ability. Where the hell was that last night? Can you say boring?

I think this show will tank. It's hard to watch and so far no country has really brought it. I'll wait for the next SYTYCD, thanks.
